Ghost Buildings

Ghost Buildings is a visual exploration of a rapidly transforming urban landscape, where architecture becomes a metaphor for the unresolved state of the city’s soul. Created during 2018–2019, as new constructions began rising across Yerevan, the series captures buildings that stood suspended between becoming and disappearing — unfinished, uninhabited, and yet undeniably present.

These structures appear as urban specters: silent giants bearing the weight of human absence. In parallel, the older semi-abandoned buildings — once full of life — have turned into a different kind of ghosthood, inhabited only by memories, shadows, and the remains of untold stories.
By portraying both the new and the old as haunted forms, the artist questions what truly animates architecture. A building may stand, but without people, without history continuing through it, it becomes an empty shell — a body without a pulse.

Ghost Buildings confronts the melancholy of modern development: the tension between aspiration and abandonment, progress and erasure. It invites the viewer to witness a city living with its own ghosts — those of the past, and those already rising in the future.
